A Very Big Head

Just behind the Pitti Palace, the Boboli Gardens appears as an endless green oasis. I can't swear this is true, but I was told that, for a long time, admission to the gardens was free. The minor entrance fee was instated to discourage the local children from playing hooky here on school days.

And what a temptation that would be! Forests of trees, miles of paths, lakes, sculpture--truly a playground worthy of a Grand Duke. Established in the middle 1500s, and first opened to the public in the 1700s, Boboli has a long history of delighting visitors.
