Just behind the Pitti Palace, the Boboli
Gardens appears as an endless green oasis. I can't
swear this is true, but I was told that, for a long time,
admission to the gardens was free. The minor entrance fee
was instated to discourage the local children from playing
hooky here on school days.
And what a temptation that would be!
Forests of trees, miles of paths, lakes, sculpture--truly
a playground worthy of a Grand Duke. Established
in the middle 1500s, and first opened to the public in the
1700s, Boboli has a long history of delighting visitors.
