Cooling off in Hallstatt, Austria. This little lakeside village has been an area of civilization since at least 700 b.c. because of the precious salt discovered in its hills. But today people are more likely to visit this UNESCO world heritage site for the clean crisp lake, which provides stunning views and cool refreshment for bathers and boaters.

I met Anna (pictured here) in the hostel in Salzburg, and convinced her to journey with me to Hallstatt. After a day and a night, we were sorry we had reservations for the midnight train to Prague, as we could have joyfully stayed here longer.
