GERMANY<< YESTERDAY'S PICTUREALL PICTURES

Ghost station, Berlin, Germany. When Berlin got divided into East and West, some of the subway lines crossed the boundary. The East made money by allowing the trains to pass through, but sealed up the stations on their side as a security measure. When the wall came down and the city reunited, the "ghost" stations reopened. While the stations in the West were remodeled through the years, in the East, like a transit time capsule, the green tiles and old-fashioned signs are just as they were in the 1940s.
