Sweet finish, Barcelona, Spain. Near La Rambla is a restaurant that soon became a great favorite, La Crema Canela. I even risked missing a train in order to stay just a little bit longer and have one last meal here before departing the city. The ambiance is lovely, the service cheerful and English-friendly, the cuisine fresh, interesting, tasty and beautifully presented.

Pictured here are two of the exceptional desserts: in the back an island of meringue floats on a sea of mousse-like chocolate. In the foreground slices of fresh fruit and crispy vermicelli noodles soak in a puddle of rich fudge sauce sprinkled with custard.

The prices are surprisingly affordable, especially the weekday set menu lunch. Priced about 8 euro, it includes soup or salad, main course, bread, water or wine, and dessert.
