CZECH REPUBLIC << YESTERDAY'S PICTUREALL PICTURES

Jewish cemetery, Prague, Czech Republic. The oldest graves here date back to the 15th century. Because of limited space, graves were stacked up to 12 layers deep. In the small area there are over 12,000 tombstones visible, but there may be more than 100,000 bodies interred.

The cemetery is one of several sites that make up the Jewish Museum in Prague. Together, they provide an overview of the rich culture and tradition of the Jewish population of Prague, along with sobering reminders of the tragic history of Jewish persecution.

Pictures of the Day are available for purchase as archival quality frameable art prints or stock photography. Send an email to liz@whereisliz.com for information regarding price and availability
