Edelweiss, Salzburg, Austria. In the excellent War Museum of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, an unexpected exhibit: a sculpture of Edelweiss, beloved alpine flower, symbol of exclusivity, purity, and everlasting love. The work is fashioned from the splintered remains of a machine gun by a Austrian World War I soldier fighting in Monte Cimone, Italy.
