A pub with a past and a future, Lacock, England. A public house since the mid-14th century, the George Inn is still an excellent place for a hearty lunch, before setting off to explore the quaint National Trust village of Lacock, in England's Cotswolds region.

While they serve all the meaty old favorites, even the George's vegetarian fare has a traditional flair about it -- my choice was a mix of fresh broccoli, cauliflower and carrots tossed in a homey cheese sauce atop a buttery pastry crust. Served with a steaming side of boiled new potatoes, pickled cabbage, cooked carrots and parsnips, I enjoyed every memorable mouthful.
