ITALY<< YESTERDAY'S PICTUREALL PICTURES

Mosaic, Rome, Italy. I think you could easily stay in Rome for three months, visiting a different museum every day, and not run out new places to see. Just in case this is your plan, there's an excellent list of Rome's museums here.

As my new friend, Marco, who lives in Rome, says, "All in all, we [Italians] boast to have 90% of all art pieces in the world, so …. Every corner is full of them."

This expressive mosaic is from the National Roman Museum at the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, located near the central train station. Their splendid collection features statues, floor mosaics from Roman villas, and the reconstruction of entire frescoed rooms of the Villa of Livia, as well as a large numismatic (coin and currency) collection. Be sure to take advantage of their free guided tours.
