Ferns that live in glass houses... Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. Unfurling their furry fronds to the spring sun, these tree ferns can grow to a height of 20 meters. In the protected environment of the specially designed glasshouse, they thrive.

The Royal Botanic Garden got its start as a small patch for growing medicinal plants back in 1670, and has grown over the ages into a sprawling park featuring 10 different glasshouses, as well as outdoor planted areas such as the Scottish Heath Garden and the Woodlands Garden.

With a rich mix of native and exotic flora, the Botanic Garden is both a relaxing and educational diversion for the intrepid traveler.

Information for planning your visit to the Royal Botanic Garden is here on their official web site.
