Muted cries, Berlin, Germany. This installation, titled Shalechet (Fallen Leaves), is part of the Jewish (Juedisches) Museum, Berlin.

The sculpture, created by artist Menashe Kadishman, consists of over 10,000 open-mouthed faces individually fashioned from heavy, circular iron plates, scattered across the concrete floor in a space called a Memory Void.

These spare areas intentionally designed into the museum "serve as an architectural expression of the irretrievable loss of the Jews murdered in Europe." Kadishman's work "...evokes painful recollections of the innocent victims of yesterday, today, and tomorrow."
