Giant View, Northern Ireland. This stunning vista is Northern Ireland's geologic wonder, the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim.

The causeway is comprised of some 40,000 black basalt columns. Scientists say these unique, honeycomb-shaped columns were formed by volcanic activity 50–60 million years ago.

But legend says they are the work of the giant Finn McCool. The causeway is the remains of a highway Finn built to bring his giant Scottish lady friend back to his Irish home.

Pictures of the Day are available for purchase as archival quality frameable art prints or stock photography. Send an email to liz@whereisliz.com for information regarding price and availability
