The server was supposed to be moved today, but now even the date is moving (to Saturday, at last report) so Where Is Liz is still right where it should be (that is, up and available for your perusal), for now. I'll keep you posted.
I had an awesome interview yesterday, the result of which will be a new article on the site, next week (I won't tell you anymore right now, it's a surprise!). Also holding off on a new letter for the Mail Bag, until the site is safely moved.
I'm going to try today to knock at least five major things off my seemingly never shrinking "to do" list today... anything that I don't complete before I go is going to have to wait a long time before I get back to it. I'll check in with y'all later and let you know how it's going...

Good Morning! Up early again, head buzzing. Met with the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance again yesterday. Director Robert Plath is drafting an introductory letter for me, and putting together some materials so I can help spread the word about International Forgiveness Day on my travels.
I'm hoping that everything goes smoothly tomorrow with the transfer of the server, which will knock out access to this web site, and the associated email accounts, for 24-72 hours. I shall not, however, be idle during that time... I am even now working on improvements large and small to the site, as well as new content, so stay tuned.
I'm starting to get serious about setting up opportunities to meet local people as I travel... if you know of someone in the UK or Europe who would be interested in a cultural exchange (anything from having a cup of tea and a chat at a cafe, a city tour from a local's perspective, speaking to a group, short-term volunteer opportunities, cooking a meal together, or anything else we can come up with) please send me an email (liz@whereisliz.com) with details on how to contact the person/people.

Still very hard to believe I will be leaving so soon. It’s waking me up before 5 a.m., pulling me out of bed too wired to sleep, to tired to do anything useful. I talk about it as though I accept it, but on a lot of levels it still doesn’t seem real, and probably won’t until I’m packed up and on that plane.
Don’t get me wrong—I’m excited, I’m thrilled, I feel lucky beyond belief. It’s just that it feels so unnatural; to leave a situation I’m so comfortable with, so happy within, to depart from this into a vast world of unknowns. I’m leaving Eden, voluntarily.

Well, I've done it. I've bought myself a ticket. Now the counter is clicking away, and each irretrievable hour feels more precious than ever. With only 21 days to go until departure, the weight of things I still need to accomplish is fairly staggering. However, my motivation is high, and my focus is sharp.
Hard to believe that just three weeks from today, I will be hauling that big pack to the airport, stepping on that plane, and flying off to a place that for me has existed only in my imagination.
I was so keenly aware that pressing that "confirm" button was a life-altering decision. With it, I was confirming not just my reservation on a plane, but my willingness to spend the next four months out of my element, far from this comfortable and reassuring shell of a life I have created around me.

Yesterday was my birthday, and despite the lovely outpouring of affection from family and friends, I must admit to feeling a little sad. I had envisioned celebrating this milestone in some distant land, and here I am, still surrounded by everything so familiar.
My plan has undergone so many revisions since its inception, and will no doubt transmute further before it is done. With travel time growing shorter with each day that passes, and the scent of impending war still thick in the air, I have decided to simplify things for the time being. Here is the current plan:
Leave mid-March 2003 for London, travel Europe via Eurail (with forays into non-Eurail countries as well) until mid-July. Return home to fulfill work obligations, retool and organize part two of the trip. Leave mid-October 2003 and travel around the world, with stops in South America, Asia, Australia, Africa, and possibly even the Middle East (if the political situation allows). Return exhausted and enlightened by mid-June 2004.
So, I am currently looking for contacts in the UK and Europe, people to meet who may be willing to clue me in to the REAL flavor of their region, not just what the tourists see. If you happen to know someone like that, by all means please send me an email.

I saw this quote in a mass email that was sent to me from one of the groups I'm in (Life Training, to be precise).
Don't wait to be ready.
Everything you need for this journey
is available
to you right now.

I think it's a sign.
