Back just a week and a half, and things are already getting exciting... still working to catch up with my email between lots of heartfelt reunions with friends, diving headlong into projects here at home, and all kinds of new material being developed for the web site. The most thrilling plans I'm keeping under wraps for the time being, but you'll be the first to know as they develop... Stay tuned!

There's no place like... HOME! Yes, after four long months, and too many amazing experiences to count, I cannot deny it is good to be back. Since I last checked in, I went from Berlin to Güttingen, Germany, joyfully reconnecting with an old college friend I hadn't seen in over a decade. Then it was a long train ride to Amsterdam, and some eye-opening sites in both the museum district and the red-light district.

Then I jetted back to London in time to meet Mom, who is traveling around the UK with her church choir group (a warm and wonderful collection of folks who all welcomed me into their midst with open arms and lots of hugs).

Finally there was nothing more to do than catch the flight home, suffering through the in-flight movie (Shanghai Knights), chasing the sun westward until at last it dipped below the horizon.

As for what it's like to be home after so long, I'll tell you more tomorrow...

Back behind the (former) Iron Curtain... this time I am checking in from (formerly) East Berlin. I arrived here yesterday, after bussing around some of Germany's most scenic countryside, commonly referred to as "the Romantic Road."

I then took a night train from Frankfurt to Berlin. Revived by a most delicious buffet breakfast (cheeses, fresh fruit, muesli, hard-boiled eggs, bread, salad... am I in Berlin or heaven?!) I ventured out on a Brewer's Walking Tour of Berlin, lead by able and knowledgeable (and fast-walking) Christian from Toronto, Canada. He trotted his seven ladies (all from either California or London) all around the town, pointing out details that would otherwise have been lost on us, and doing an excellent job putting everything in historical perspective.

With only ten days to go before my return to the States, I took today as a day to just be slow, reflective, and get quiet enough to feel the pulse of this place. Ahhhh....

If it's Wednesday, it must be Munich... no, really it's not that bad -- just a bit of an adjustment after an enchanting week in the Czech Republic, where everything is cheap and I made many delightful friends. Cesky Krumlov was fantastic, everyone should go there (but please, not all at the same time!). I can especially recommend the hostel Krumlov House as a cozy, friendly home-away-from-home.

Today began with a sobering visit to the Dachau concentration camp memorial, and ended up somewhat less soberly at an enormous beer garden in Munich's English Garden, via a bike tour. Tomorrow looks like rain, so it may be a good time to check out some of those world-class museums I've been hearing about.
