On a more hopeful note... Join me at Dylan's, an authentic old-time pub in the Mission District, for an evening of Travel Tales. Tell a travel story, listen to a few, hoist a few, network with other travelers and writers, maybe get your work published online.

The theme for this month is: "Where in the world have you been, and what did you do there to make the world a better place? Did you make friends, volunteer, donate time and/or money?" Guest speaker is artist, web designer and world traveler (guess who?) Liz Scherle.

Beer and wine available at the bar. Seating for this event is limited, so RSVPs are vital. Preference given to storytellers over listeners. See you in the "snug" at the back of the pub.

Log on to www.intentionaltraveler.com for more info about Travel Tales, storytelling suggestions, and related travel stories.

Today we face another dark anniversary... and I am grieving. I am grieving not just for the immediate victims of the 9/11 tragedy; I am grieving as well for their families and loved ones who have had to live these last two years in a world that is poorer for their absence.

I am grieving not only for the hundreds of servicemen and women injured or killed in the war on Iraq (a war whose justification was based largely on a mythological connection to the events of September 11th); I am grieving also for the over 30,000 Iraqi civilians who have also perished as a result of these hostilities.

And I am grieving for the loss of sympathy and support of so many countries around the world toward America. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks two years ago, it seemed the cheeks of the whole world were running with tears for America. The actions of the American government since that day have dried those tears, and replaced that goodwill with disappointment, frustration and anger.

Yesterday I was at a trade show in downtown San Franciso, when the convention center was hastily evacuated due to a bomb threat. It is reported that the caller said a bomb had been planted "in retribution for bloodshed in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Have the actions of the American government in these last two years made the world a safer place, or a more perilous one?

Hey wow! If you're in the Marin, California area, be sure to pick up this week's edition of the Pacific Sun... Writer Michael McCarthy has penned what is, in all modesty, a very wonderful cover story on the Global Ambassador movement, and has included a photo and quote from yours truly. For those of you living outside the bay area, the text and photo will eventually be included in the "PRESS" section of my site.

On other topics, you don't need to save this Saturday, as the event has been postponed, but I will keep you informed as things develop.
